Famous Music Video Directors

Joseph Kahn is an American music video director who has worked with many famous artists ranging from Destiny's Child to Blink 182. He set up his own production company in 1999 and has collected many awards and nominations for his work on videos such as Best Video Of The Year for Forever - Chris Brown and in 2002 he won his first Grammy for his work on Eminem's - Without Me. Aswell as music videos he has also worked on commercials and has directed some films but these came after his music video career. This tends to happen this way round due to the constraints that making a music video holds and means you have to be more rigid in your ideas.

Another famous music video director is Steve Barron. He is originally from Dublin, Ireland and made his music video debut in 1979 and went on from there to make some of the most memorable music videos of the 80's. His most famous videos would probably be Take On Me - Aha and Billie Jean - Michael Jackson with him making his final music video in the early 90's. Again like Joseph Kahn he went on to director films and television series, working with the likes of Eddie Izzard and Elijah Wood.

Harold Williams also know as Hype Williams is an American Music Video director who has created a number of music videos for different artists from 2 Pac to Notorious B.I.G. He started his work in 1991 and just like the other directors above has gone on to now direct films and television pieces. His signature style from 2003 has been to create a camera focus on the artist from the torso upwards and a solid colour background as you can see in the Golddigger video opposite.
