The Maccabees - First Love Editing Analysis

The first music video we looked at was for a song called First Love by The Maccabees. Throughout the video it has 140 cuts in total with the use of jump cuts being very utilised when switching from the different narratives to the performance aspect of the video. The cuts that are made in the video are mostly at random intervals and we worked out from the length of the song and the amount of cuts made that there are approximately every 2 seconds. We also looked at other editing techniques they used and saw that most of the action takes place in real time with there then being some aspects of shrinking time coming in when he is dancing to the beat and when his eyelashes are fluttering. This mostly happens when the beat of the song drops and the tempo speeds up to engage us as the audience as fastest things tend to draw a younger crowd in and this would be who the director is wanting to attract as this is who mostly watch music channels such as MTV.
