Typography of YCRK
In class today we had to decide what typography would best suit our artist but first in order to do this we thought it would be a good idea to research what exactly was meant by 'Typography'.
Something important that we found was that the typography used for different letters are important in “creating an overall impression” which can either satisfy or disappoint the reader. For band logos, the typography can indicate to the listener whether he or she will enjoy the band’s music. There is no right or wrong way to go about typography but the most important thing is to know what appeals to your niche audience since different styles of typography can appeal to certain fans but not to others.
With this in mind we knew that we had to use a typeface that would appeal to people who enjoy listening to this genre of music so I thought it would be a good idea to see what artists that already have an album out that are similar are using. I decided to look at the indie band 'Death cab for cuties' and found this poster for one of their tours. As you can see the font is very simplistic and quite similar to Courier. From this we thought that for YCRK we needed to go for something relatively plan but a bit different, something similar to a typewriter font was one of our ideas. After a long think about what we wanted to use, trying out many different fonts, we decided that something along the lines of the 'courier' font would be the best font to go for both for our genre of music but also for our band.
