Jimmy Eat World Editing Analysis

In order for us to get a good understanding of the mark scheme for this section of us A2 exam and so that we understood exactly how we needed to edit our music video footage together we decided to watch a well known music video and mark it against our mark scheme, saying how many points we would give it out of 40. The video we choose to
analyse was Jimmy Eat World - Work and below is the link to this video:

After watching this video we all decided that it definitely fitted into the level 4 band of work which is the highest due to its excellent levels of shot framing, the mise en scene being appropriate to the genre/lyrics of the song and the wide variety of shot transistions and other effects. However on closer inspection we decided that actually this video shouldn't get the full 40 marks as it did fall back in some of the areas. Despite being an engaging and interesting music video, the meaning of the video was lost slightly in the many stories it had running throughout and the link between visuals and lyrics could have been stronger at some points. Overall my group decided to give it 38/40 because of these two reasons and by doing this activity it made us realise what we needed to change in our music video. It made us realise that we needed to make sure we didn't lose the meaning of our narrative  when we came to put it into our music video and that things such as lighting and colour where important factors that we need to consider when it comes to shooting our next section of the video.
