Colour Grading and Letterboxing

Today in the lesson we decided it was time to start making the finishing steps to our music video so thought we should colour grade, letter box and put in the MTV logo which we would put in the top right corner.

To start we used the software called Color which I have previously researched and exported our music video to this. Then came the hardest bit which was deciding the exact amount of each colour we wanted in our shots. As we had made an Indie music video and had researched what kind of filters looked best for this genre we knew we wanted to go with quite an 'instagram' sort of effect with very much warm tones throughout our music video. After playing around with the tones for a while we eventually decided on which one we thought would be most appropriate, not only for our genre but also for the shots we had.

We then thought that we should letter box our whole music video in order to make it look as professional as possible. This took up quite a lot of our time as it meant that we had to go through every single shot and using the process of 'Effect > Video Filters > Matte > Widescreen' make each individual shot in a letterbox. Another thing that we thought would really emphasis the fact that this is a music video and stick with the conventions would be to put the MTV logo in the corner. Out of all of the music channels we felt that the MTV Rocks logo would be the most appropriate for our genre of music as they tend to play music that is more 'rocky' and they use bands that are similar to YCRK. Luckily we were able to just drag this clip along the timeline in final cut so it saved us time and made it a lot easier as we knew it would be in the same place the whole way through.
