Evaluation of Our First Cut

After watching the music video, we asked our class what they personally thought of our music videos and most of the feedback was good (thankfully!) but we did get some points for change which I will discuss in this blog post.

One of the first thing people said about our video was the fact that our shots were way too long for a typical music video. Our first couple of shots before the music starts where you see the band performing were all very similar and a good couple of seconds each so it made the audience watching start to get a bit bored and not feel excited about listening to the music. As the music isn't particulary fast we got caught in the trap of thinking that it meant our editing speed had to equal this but this is not true! We decided that in order to make our music video better we should flash to shots of the narrative and put in more shots during the parts where Harry is singing of the instruments.

They also commented on the colour of shots, which is something I had not given a lot of thought too. Obviously when we did the shoot we had to set up the lighting in the studio as it was quite dark inside there but apart from this we didn't really think about any filters we should put over our music video. A few people said that although the actual lighting is good normally you have quite bright lighting for music videos and ours was a bit dull. We took this into consideration and decided that we would leave it until we have completly finished the editing of the video and then we would use a software such as Color and try some colour grading.

Apart from this everyone really enjoyed the short bit of film we had and it gave me and Georgia great confidence to continue on how we are going.
