Bang Bang - Will.I.Am Analysis

Bang Bang is a song written by American singer/songwriter will.I.am and would fit into the genre of Electro-Pop. The video does fit into the genre characteristics of Pop because it includes song lyrics that are mostly to do with love and relationships and also is largely based around a dance that both the artist and the band do. However it steps away from the norm in the fact that its not bright and bold with positive vibes throughout as you would expect, it is all filmed in black and white to make it seem like its an old piece of footage and to go with the general tone of the song.

The whole video is performance based and so throughout the artist will.i.am is lip syncing. He also appears to have a dance move for nearly everything he says for example when he says 'Forever I'll always need her'  he puts up 4 fingers in the air and then later he says 'Lovesick I got that fever' and he uses his hand to fan himself as if he's really hot! There is also a connection between the music and the visuals for example when you can hear the constant drum beat at 0:28 the main artist and the rest of the band start fist pumping to the beat to show the fact they are all performing to the same song and to enhance to the audience that this not naturalistic but an actual choreographed performance they are watching.

There is lots of references to the fact that Will.I.Am is the main artist as he is in the centre of the band for most of the time he is on 'stage' as it were. He is also given a spotlight, is wearing a white suit whilst the others wear black and he is also the highest figure in most shots for example on the podiums he gets to stand on the highest one while everyone else sits on the lower down ones. Included in the video is reference to the voyeuristic treatment of the female body as the lady that comes into the video appears to be dancing for the artist and her dancing that she does do is very sexual and provocative.
